So, a blog. Let me explain why it exists, and why the rest of this site looks different than it did a few weeks ago.

Why I rebuilt this

The old portfolio did its job. It listed projects, had a contact form, looked fine in a screenshot. But it never really felt like mine. It had the same shape as a hundred other developer portfolios: hero, about, projects, contact, done. Nothing on it told you how I actually think, or what I care about outside of shipping features.

So I tore it down and started over. The new version has a few things the old one didn’t:

• A homepage that actually shows the work instead of just linking to it
• The Nerd, a page for the parts of me that have nothing to do with frontend engineering: comics, Lego, Formula 1, and an ongoing campaign to get to space
• This blog, for everything that doesn’t fit neatly into a project card

None of it was a redesign for the sake of a redesign. Every section exists because the old site was missing it.

What this blog is actually for

I’m not going to pretend I’ll be publishing every week. What I want this space for is simpler: the stuff that usually only lives in commit messages, half finished Notion docs, and Slack threads with myself. Decisions I went back and forth on. Bugs that took longer to fix than I’d like to admit. Why I picked one library over another, and whether I’d make the same call again.

Expect posts about frontend engineering first, the projects I’m building second, and whatever else earns a spot on the about page third.

What to expect next

This site isn’t finished, and I don’t think it ever will be. A few things already in motion:

• Side Quests, a section documenting the events, communities, and side projects I show up for outside client work
• More entries on The Nerd as new obsessions show up (Formula 1 season is not helping my productivity)
• Write ups on the freelance projects I’m shipping now that I’m doing this full time
